Brian Bell

Department Chair
Mr. Bell graduated from the University of Phoenix in Bakersfield with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business (Accounting) and received his teaching credential from the University of LaVerne. He is presently working on a Master of Mathematics Degree with a completion date of August 2005. Mr. Bell enjoys fishing, camping, water skiing, snow skiing, and working on old cars.


Mark Bell

Mr. Bell graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. He also holds a Master of Business Degree from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Mathematics Degree from California State University, Bakersfield and a teaching credential from the University of LaVerne. Mr. Bell enjoys camping, Disneyland, Tae-Kwan-Do, volleyball, and swimming.

Jose Castro

Mr. Castro attended schools in Mexico and East Los Angeles before graduating from Wasco High School. He continued his education at California State University, Bakersfield and California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and has taught mathematics since 2002. Mr. Castro enjoys soccer, baseball, camping, and fishing.

Willie Ray Fields

Mr. Fields played football at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska (1967-1968) before earning a Chemical Engineering Degree from the Colorado School of Mines (1972), an MBA from Pepperdine University (1983) and a Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics from CSU Bakersfield in 2005. Additionally, he is an ordained minister and pastor of a church in Porterville. Mr. Fields is married and has three children and three young grandsons.

Denise Ortiz

Mrs. Ortiz is a 1984 graduate of Wasco High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1988 from CSU Bakersfield and completed the single subject teacher credential program at CSUB in 1989.  She has been teaching mathematics at Wasco High since September 1989.  In her free time, Mrs. Ortiz enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.

Araceli Solis

Mrs. Solis was born in Kansas City, Kansas, but grew up in Wasco. She is the oldest of 3 daughters and is the proud daughter of Jose and Esther Rios. Mrs. Solis graduated from WHS in 1997. She went on to CSU Bakersfield and obtained a B.A. in Art with a Psychology minor. She obtained a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an M.A. in Teaching, Learning, and Technology from PLNU- Bakersfield. She began teaching 6th grade and

then moved on to the middle school. Mrs. Solis has been teaching for 5 years and is excited to begin her sixth year at WHS. She is pursuing a Single Subject Credential, Administrative Credential, and a Doctorate degree at PLNU. She is happily married to Mr. Solis and has a one year old baby girl, Ximena, whom she adores. In the future, she would like to go to FIDM and obtain a B.A. in Fashion Design.

Charmae Woods

Mrs. Woods graduated from CSUB with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2001.  She also earned her teaching credential from CSUB in 2003 and has recently completed the courses for a Masters in Teaching Math. She enjoys spending time with her family an friends, camping, and going to the beach!
